When do you think of fall what comes to mind? Leaves, gorgeous colors and pumpkins! I already stuck up on all the pumpkins this year and I wanted to add some cozy pieces to my table too. In addition to crochet chunky yarn pumpkin I made crochet basket and matching crochet round placemats that match my pumpkins too!

I used the same stitch throughout all 3 patterns and went for traditional orange color with some cream color pop up this year.

Here you’ll find how to crochet a round placemat and DIY crochet basket.

Measurement of the crochet basket is 6” in diameter and 4” height and round crochet placemats measures 13” in diameter.

What you will need:

• T-shirt yarn (6 super bulky weight, super chunky yarn/100m(109yards)/330g) – 71 yards (65 m) for basket.

• T-shirt yarn (6 super bulky weight, super chunky yarn/100m(109yards)/330g) – 71 yards (65 m) for 1 placemat. I used t-shirt yarn from my shop KNITZNPURLZ;

• Crochet hook – 9mm, N13;

• Stitch markers.

Abbreviations, Stitch knowledge:

St – stitch;

Sc- single crochet;

Sl St – slip stitch;

BLO – back loop only;

Gauge: 2 St = 1 inch and 2 Rows = 1 inch (your gauge may depend on the thickness of your yarn, so you may have to decrease or increase the size of the hook to match the gauge).

Let’s get crocheting!

Crochet basket free pattern:

The basket is worked from bottom up in continuous rounds.

Round 1:  Make magic ring, ch1.

Round 2:. Sc 6 in magic ring. Tighten the ring by pulling the tail end.

Do not join the round and continue working in spiral way. You may place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round for easy round counting.

Round 3: 2 sc in each st around (12 sts);

Round 4: (2sc in first st, sc in next st) around (18 sts);

Round 5: (sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) around (24 sts)

Round 6: (2 sc in first st, sc in next 3 sts) around (30 sts);

Round 7: (sc in 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts) around (36 sts);

Round 8: Sc in each st through the back loop AND 3d loop of the st. The row will curl up forming the wall of the basket.

Round 9-13: Continue working with sc BLO in each st around in spiral way without joining rounds;

Round 14: Slst around.

Weave ends and finish off.

Note: All st are worked in BO.

Round 1-7: Repeat round 1-7 from basket pattern;

Round 8: (sc in 4 sts, 2sc in next st, sc in next st) around (42 sts);

Round 9: (sc in 6 sts, 2sc in next st) around (48sts);

Round 10: (2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 sts) around (54 sts);

Round 11: (sc in 2 sts, 2sc in next st, sc in next 6 sts) around (60 sts);

Round 12: (sc in 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts) around (66 sts);

Round 13: Sc around.

Weave ends and finish off.
