I decided to change my Christmas decor this year because I wanted to include as many handmade items as I could. Everyone in my family loves Christmas stockings, so I made up my mind to update them as well, even better, to personalize them! Believe it or not, these stockings were pretty easy to crochet.

I used tshirt yarn for Christmas stockings so it worked up really fast and I could crochet a stocking in just under an hour. Crochet stocking pattern is fairly easy and beginner friendly. Christmas stocking crochet in rounds so you don’t have to worry about the seams and weaving too many ends. I used a cream color of chunky t-shirt yarn and plaid tshirt yarn as a contrast color for letters using tapestry crochet. Crochet holiday stocking pattern includes charts for all letters so you can personalize your stocking for all your family members and friends. That also makes it a great selling item as you can take custom orders using just one pattern. Easy crochet stocking pattern requires relatively very little yarn, only 54 yards of main color and 32 yards of contrast color yarn. I used a single crochet stitch through the back loop which is a pretty easy stitch but gives a nice texture and crab stitch for border, you can find a photo tutorial for crab stitch down below or check my video tutorial for the entire pattern.

Note: The stocking is worked up starting at a toe into the foot and up the cuff. All sts are worked in blo unless otherwise noted in the pattern. When changing colors at ankle for letter tapestry crochet, do not cut the thread and carry it along on the back. The color is always changed with two loops on the hook. So you will change color when completing the last yarn over of the last stitch of previous color. Refer to color chart for easy color pattern changing.
1. Crochet toe and foot:
With cc make magic ring and ch 1.
Round 1: Sc 6 in magic ring, tighten the ring by pulling the tail end. Do not join round continue working in spiral way, place the stitch marker at the beginning of the row for easy row counting. (6 sts).
Round 2: 2 sc into each st around (12 sts).
Round 3: (2 sc into first st, 1 sc in next st) all the way around (18 sts).
Cut cc, join mc
Round 4-10: Sc around.
2. Heel:
Round 11: Sc 13, drop and don’t cut mc, join and continue with cc, sc 10, turn.
Round 12-15: All sts worked as regular sc, not blo. ch 1, sc 10 across, turn. (ch at the beginning of the row does not count as a st). See photo 5.
Fold heel part in half right sides facing each other, sew the heel closed along the edge with sl st. Cut cc See photo 6.
3. Stocking:
Round 16: Pick up mc from round 11, sc blo around the stocking and the heel (17 sts).
Note: Place one st in each row end and one st in the seam making it 9 sts across the heel.
Place marker on the 5th stitch (st above the seam of the heel), marking the beginning of the round. See photo 7.
Round 17-23: Follow chart for letter crochet tapestry color change. All sts worked blo.
For example: in letter “E” in the first row use main color color to work sc in 2 st, then use contrast color to work sc in next 5 sts, then with main color sc 10 sts.
Round 24: With mc, sc around, cut mc.
Round 25: With cc crab stitch around. Cut approx 5” yarn to form a loop.
4. Finishing:
