Free crochet round boho bag pattern

round boho bag crochet free.png

Did you see those round straw bags? When they became popular I wanted to snatch one for myself but my concern was that since it was made of straw it would ruin my clothes on the sides by constant wear.

As you know from my other posts t-shirt yarn is great for crocheting bags, so I decided to replicate the round bag by crocheting it using tshirt yarn. The material is soft and won’t ruin my clothes.

Also I was thinking of the stitch that would give similar look to straw bags. I used Camel stitch in this basket with coasters and when I looked at coasters I saw that the continuous rounds of camel stitch would satisfy my idea for boho bag. It’s basically the same pattern as coasters just bigger circles!

As for the handle I wanted something as simple as possible. Well, what can be simpler than twisting the thread. And I did just that.

The color of the t-shirt yarn that I used for this pattern is no longer available, but ivory and cacao colors are very similar.

The purse is made of 2 crocheted circles using Camel stitch and sewn together.

The bag measures 10” in diameter. You can make it bigger or smaller by either making less or more amount of rounds. I did not put any lining to this purse unlike in my wristlet HERE because the stitch is pretty tight and you won’t see any spaces in between stitches. But if you want to add lining you can see how I did it in other pattern for wristlet clutch.

What you will need:

  1. T-shirt yarn (6 super bulky weight, super chunky yarn) -109 yards (100 m). I used t-shirt yarn from my shop KNITZNPURLZ.

  3. 2 D-rings purse hardware, I used 2.25”x1”;

  4. 2 O-gate rings (screw together) purse hardware, I used 1.5” ;

  5. 1 Magnetic snap, I used 3/8”

  6. Stitch markers.

Joining pieces:

Join 2 circles wrong side facing each other and crocheted stitches matching, put markers on the places where you want the handles to be. Insert darning needle in the st from front to the 1st stitch, tighten to close the gap. Insert the needle to the next st from back to front and to the same st where you started on the other piece. Tighten each st as you sew along. Continue sewing 2 pieces together all the way around starting from the first marker to the second marker leaving the gap for the purse opening.

In PDF pattern you will find how I sew it with an invisible stitch.

Sew in D rings for handle.

Attach magnetic snap to the wrong sides of the purse.

Handle:

Cut the yarn approx. 13-15 yards of the t-shirt yarn, SEW the ends together, you will get a big circle of continuous thread. Fold the yarn strands in half and loop them over something to hold them in place ( like the leg of the chair, door knob, I used my husband’s finger). Start twisting the cord in the same direction to it’s full length. Twist as much as you can. Slip off the end where it was holding.

Keep holding the other ends of the yarn in your hand and allow the cord to fold back on itself. It will naturally twist on itself and make a nice looking twisted cord. Slip gate rings on both ends and to D rings in the purse.

Finish off and weave ends.
