Jasmine Stitch With T-shirt Yarn

Jasmine stitch is definitely one of the most beautiful stitches in crochet world. But how many times did you put off a project with jasmine stitch thinking you won’t be able to do it? Let’s be honest it looks very complicated! I hope with this photo and video tutorial you’ll be able to accomplish it and make so many great crochet items with jasmine stitch, like this crochet Jasmine purse!

This tutorial is for a jasmine stitch that I used in a purse pattern that is available on Joy of Motion blog.

I will start at the beginning of crochet purse base. You can find a pattern for it here. For this tutorial I used tshirt yarn from my etsy shop and 9 mm hook/N13.

Draw up height of active loop on hook a little, yo, inserting hook into the same st, draw up a loop (3 loops on the hook). Yo, skip 1 st, insert hook into next st, draw up a loop, yo, insert hook into the same, draw up a loop (7 loops on the hook).

Yo, skip 1 st, insert the hook into next st, draw up a loop, yo, insert the hook into the same st, draw up a loop. (11 loops on the hook). Yo and insert your thumb between yo and a hook, pull yarn through all 11 loops on the hook, sl st by inserting the hook where your thumb was. This will make 1 flower with 3 petals.

To start NEXT flower: Draw up height of active loop on hook a little, yo, inserting hook into st at base of loop (this is the center of the previous flower), yo and draw up a loop (3 loops on the hook).

[Yo, insert hook into st where the last petal petal of previous flower was made, yo and draw up a loop] twice (7 loops on the hook).

Skip 1 st, yo and insert the hook into next st and draw up a loop, yo, insert the hook into the same st and draw up a loop. (11 loops on the hook).

Yo and insert your thumb between yo and a hook, pull yarn through all 11 loops on the hook, sl st by inserting the hook where your thumb was. Repeat procedure for “next flower” to the end of row.

Row 2: Draw up height of active loop on hook a little, yo, inserting hook into the same st, draw up a loop (the base of the petal of the first row). (3 loops on the hook).

* Yo, skip 1 st, insert hook into next st (the center of the flower of previous row), draw up a loop, yo, insert hook to the same st and draw up a loop (7 loops on the hook).

Repeat from * once to have 11 loops on hook. Yo and insert your thumb between yo and a hook, pull yarn through all 11 loops on the hook, sl st by inserting the hook where your thumb was.

And here you have it! You can use this stitch to make purses, totes, baskets and even rugs! Share your makes with me on Instagram by tagging @knitznpurlz or use #knitznpurlzyarn.
