28 Feb Star Pillow Case Crochet Free Pattern
Crochet pillows can work wonders. They add so much softness and comfort. I wanted a fun little pillow for my kid’s room and I decided to create a pillow that would be shaped like a star. My boys love everything about space and stars.
I used single crochet in 3 rd bar stitch in the center and challenged myself to recreate the same stitch in turned rows for star points. That way the star points have the same stitch and look as the center but it’s worked in rows. I did not think twice of what yarn I’d be using, I had perfect t-shirt yarn with stars printed on it. So I used “star yarn” for a star pillow. And good news are that I have a variety of “star yarn” colors, you can check it HERE. While working on the pillow case, my husband noticed that the wrong side looks just as good as the right side of it. Here in the pattern you can choose what side you like better or if you can’t decide simply use both!

Gauge 2 St = 1” and 2 Rows = 1” in sc stitch worked in third bar (your gauge may depend on the thickness of your yarn, so you may have to decrease or increase the size of the hook to match the gauge).
What you will need:
T-shirt yarn (weight 6 /super bulky weight, 100 m (109 yards)/330 g (11.5oz) – 2 cakes (109 yards each). I used t-shirt yarn from my shop KNITZNPURLZ;

Special Stitches :
Sc in 3rd bar – single crochet through the third bar of single crochet of a previous row.
Sc in 3rd bar turned rows – when you turn your piece, you see the backside of the camel stitch, the third bar is now below the front loop that is facing you. Let’s get crocheting!
Note: The pillow cover shaped like a star and is worked up starting at the center and going in rounds using single crochet in 3rd bar stitch. To achieve the same effect of stitch in rows in the star points, we will work into the third bar of the single crochet stitch but it will be facing you when you turn your piece. Each star point is worked the same way. After you complete the circle you will have 55 st, place marker at every 11th stitch that will be the beginning of each star point. Crochet 2 identical pieces and sew it together filling it with poly fiber as you go. You can choose which side will be the right side or the wrong side. If you like the look of single crochet stitch sew the pieces with turned rows facing each other. If you like the look of turned rows side sew single crochet stitch sides facing each other.
The center of the star:
Make magic ring and ch 1.
Round 1: Sc 5 in magic ring, do not join round, tighten the ring by pulling the tail end.
Round 2:. Continue to the first st of the previous round 2 sc in 3rd bar of each st around (10 sts). Working in a spiral way, place the stitch marker at the beginning of the row for easy row counting.
Round 3: (2 sc in 3rd bar of first st, 1 sc in 3rd bar of next st) around (15 sts).
Round 4: (1 sc in 3rd bar of next 2 sts, 2 sc in 3rd bar of next st) around (20 sts).
Round 5: (2 sc in 3rd bar of next st, 1 sc in 3rd bar of next 3 sts) around (25 sts).
Round 6: (1 sc in 3rd bar of next 2 sts, 2 sc in 3rd bar of next st, 1 sc in 3rd bar of next 2 sts) around (30 sts).
Round 7: (1 sc in 3rd bar of next 4 sts, 2 sc in 3rd bar of next st, 1 sc in 3rd bar of next st) around (35 sts).
Round 8: (1 sc in 3rd bar of next 6 sts, 2 sc in 3rd bar of next st) around (40 sts).
Round 9: (2 sc in 3rd bar of next st, 1 sc in 3rd bar of next 7 sts) around (45 sts).
Round 10: (1 sc in 3rd bar of next 2 sts, 2 sc in 3rd bar of next st, 1 sc in 3rd bar of next 6 sts) the way around (50 sts).
Round 11: (1 sc in 3rd bar of next 4 sts, 2 sc in 3rd bar of next st, 1 sc in 3rd bar of next 5 sts) around (55 sts). Don’t fasten off and continue with star point going forward.
Star points:
Each star point is worked the same way. Place marker at every 11th stitch that will be the beginning of each star point. Ch1 at the end of the row does not count as a stitch.
Row 1: 1 sc in 3rd bar of each st across. Ch1, turn (11 sts).
Row 2: sc in 3rd bar turned rows in each st across. Ch 1, turn (11 sts).
Row 3: sc in 3rd bar 2 together , sc in 3rd bar in each st to last 2 sts, sc in 3rd bar 2 together last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn (9 sts).
Repeat rows 2-3 decreasing by 2 sts every other row, until there are 3 st remaining.
Row 4: Sc in 3rd bar 3 together remaining 3 st. Cut yarn and fasten off.
(Join yarn in next marked st and repeat row 1-4) 4 more times for 4 more star points. Leave a length of yarn in one of the star points for sewing pieces together.
Finish:
Choose sides you want to be wrong sides.
Place 2 pieces together with wrong side facing each other, sew the edges with darning needle and stuff points of star with poly fiber as you go. Weave in ends and finish off.
